History

Inspired by their passion for motor sport, four engineering students have come up with the idea of designing and building an electric racing car for the Formula Student programme in the summer of 2023.

Six months later, these students formed the first Formula Student team at the Troyes University of Technology, named Troyes Racing Team, enabling other students to share the same passion by opening the doors of their project to them.

  • Design a complete racing car that meets the current challenges of the automotive world

  • Personal and professional development

  • Become a leading student project that promotes learning through project management and the exercise of skills

  • To maintain this dynamic team spirit within our school and establish ourselves as a permanent fixture on the Formula Student France scene.

Goals

POWERTRAIN

The aim of the PT division is to design the car's Traction System, i.e. all the components used to propel the car.

As part of our drive to develop low-carbon technologies, our team has entered the electric vehicle (EV) category. The car will be equipped with brushless motors and a lithium-ion battery, the same technologies used in FIA Formula E.

The main mission of this department is to optimise the car's performance by adjusting electronic management, improving energy efficiency and maximising power while maintaining state-of-the-art reliability.

The different divisions

Their mission is to optimise the flow of air and redirect it to cool the engines in order to improve the car's performance in the various stages of the competition.

They use advanced modelling software to create efficient body components, reducing drag to increase top speed and increasing offset for better ground contact.

As a result, the main challenge is to find the ideal compromise between the two, to make the most of the engine's power while maintaining maximum efficiency on the track.

AERODYNAMICS

The GL department is the backbone of our team. These students are responsible for the design and manufacture of all the car's transmission, steering and braking components, as well as all the suspension elements.

Their work is crucial to ensure exceptional roadholding, optimum stability and handling, while minimising overall weight.

GROUND LINK

FRAME

The chassis division is essential for the design and manufacture of the main frame of the electric single-seater.

Its missions include structural design, simulation and finite element analysis to optimise safety and performance, as well as supervision of manufacturing and assembly.

The chassis department also works closely with the other technical departments to ensure that all the vehicle's components are integrated in a coherent way.

Founded in Troyes in 1994, the Troyes University of Technology(UTT) is one of the five largest post-baccalaureate public engineering schools in France. It is part of Groupe UT, a network of French universities of technology.

Both a university and a freat school, UTT trains 3,100 students each year from bac to bac+8. A founding member of the EUT+ initiative, the European University of Technology, UTT is committed to its development on a European scale.

UTT is also committed to a policy of social and environmental responsibility (SER), which reports directly to the institution's management.
